American History


Designed For: Rising 7th, 8th and 9th grade students. 

Content:  In addition to a survey of American History, the content is used for teaching study skills and habits needed for successful performance in any history related course. The course is often used to supplement a course in Reading and/or Written Expression. Skills covered include note taking in class as well as from reading, active reading skills, confidence using a history text, interpretation of charts and graphs, identification of relevant information and test preparation.

Many specific study skills are best attained using history content as a basis for practice. Study skills emphasized include outlining, note taking, interpretation of maps, charts, graphs, tables, and primary sources. The goal is to teach how to read and study a textbook, identify important information, synthesize, and respond intelligently in writing.
